There is something I’ve been wondering about lately involving social media. It has a lot to do with links and how to use them in posts. I recently listened to a podcast that discusses why you shouldn’t use links in social posts, and after thinking about it, I might actually agree with the idea.
Reasons for Agreement
I’m the type of person who would do anything I can to make sure things are getting done, and done correctly. My therapist was the one who first brought to my attention that I get things done in a timely manner compared to other clients of his. In this case, I’ll use any strategy I can to make sure my social media posts are in decent shape to get views and engagement. After listening to that podcast, I realize that it does make sense not to include a link in a post, but you can instead put one in the comments or reply section. It’s really about getting viewers and customers to stay on the platform longer, and from my research, having a link in the post caption tends to discourage them from returning to the post.
As a matter of fact, you can actually get penalized if there’s a link in a post, and platforms will essentially alert you about that. Social News Desk reports that many social media users began noticing recommendations in their Facebook page insights. When I saw that, I was like, “Wow! This is more serious than I thought!”
The Verdict
As strict as this concept is, I think it’s fairly simple to follow. If you want improvements on engagement rates and views, just don’t put links in the post caption. Instead, put it in the comments or replies section. As I said, I’ll do anything within my power to make sure things get done, and done correctly. You should too!
