There are plenty of ways to create meaningful content without overstepping boundaries. What I mean is that rules and regulations apply when you publish things online. That includes using artificial intelligence.
As we all know, there have been many conversations about AI becoming a major source of human creativity, originality, and ownership. Opinions vary, from a useful tool to a potential source of misinformation.
So, what’s the call on AI for content creation?
Public Sentiment
While it’s acceptable to use AI to a certain extent, legal limitations and questions still arise.
Research supports this distinction. Respondents from about six countries preferred human-created content over AI-generated content, and acceptance increased only when humans used AI to assist. This is all according to the Reuters Institute’s Generative AI and News Report 2025.
Let me use myself as an example. In one of my recent posts, I said I believe AI is a useful tool and collaborator. While I still firmly believe that, I’m also aware of the legal consequences if it’s used incorrectly. I value my work ethic enormously, so I know using AI for ideas and research is okay, but plagiarizing it through copy-and-paste isn’t.
The correct use of AI tools depends on each tool’s purpose, but if humans are involved, they need to know how to use it correctly. I write all my content, and if I’m struggling for any reason, I’ll do some research using a tool.
Legal Information
When I mention legal consequences, I mean what can happen to internet content that uses AI incorrectly. Issues like copyright, privacy, and consumer protection laws can come up, and I know it’s not a pretty sight when they do.
If you’re a content creator, like me, you should definitely be aware of copyright issues, because giving credit isn’t always enough. It’s one thing to use AI to help develop an argument or concept. However, when you use it to create an image or video with a short caption and then assume you own the rights to it, that’s no good.
I could also advise on the other issues I mentioned. It really relates to false information, and my advice is to be extremely careful when you come across information out there, especially when you’re using AI. Also, AI doesn’t give people who impersonate or mislead others with false information any leeway. Instead, it can lead to serious consequences.
Those consequences can include having content removed right away and facing criminal charges. It’s that simple!
Final Thoughts
Overall, AI-generated content has its ups and downs. However, if you understand the difference between correct and incorrect uses of AI, you’ll be fine.
There is always a consequence for everything you do – something I’ve always kept in mind to this day.
