As someone who enjoys watching sports, I can’t help but think about what it would be like to do a deeper dive into sports data. Just about any sports topic can be turned into a data story. With that in mind, this week I dove deeper into a certain football topic that answers the central idea and question about what makes a “comeback quarterback.”

The National Football League is known to feature games that consist of a quarterback leading their team in the fourth quarter to win after being down by a significant amount of points. Although my favorite NFL team, the New York Jets, doesn’t do that a whole lot, I feel that I’ve watched a lot of football games in the past to conduct thorough research on this topic.

With the research on Pro Football Reference and the use of DataWrapper for graphics, I’ve published a data story on Medium that takes an extremely close look at what exactly makes a comeback quarterback. I encourage everyone to read and hopefully take into consideration about the moral of this story, especially anyone who are sports fans and are curious about this topic, or anyone who might want to be an NFL quarterback one day.
