There hasn’t been a day that goes by in life that I don’t go on social media. Ever since I created my Instagram account back in 2014, when just about everyone around me in high school was talking all about it, I’ve become so into the social media world.

The Impacts

Social media, both personally and societally, has become a major source of information, whether it’s important or not. Societally, it has kept me up to date with all sorts of news beyond what I see on television. My favorite news source is ABC7 New York Eyewitness News, and following them specifically on Facebook, Instagram, and X has just made the concept even better for me.

Personally, I use social media to stay in touch with family and friends every day. Some of them I still talk to face-to-face, while others are a bit different. There are even lots of people whom I used to work with whom I don’t really see anymore, mainly because I don’t work at the same job or location as I used to. That doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten all about them. By using social media in various ways, such as stories, posts, comments, and shares, I can keep up with what’s going on in the lives of my former coworkers whom I still care about. This applies to all the past jobs I’ve had, whether or not I lasted long, because most of the people I became friends with will always have a place in my heart, and I mean every word of that. So, to my friends from past work experiences at Iavarone Bros, Camp Iconic, Freeport Public Schools, and much more, I hope all is well and that everything has been okay without me.

The Future

Overall, social media has been, and will definitely continue to be, a huge part of my life. Without it, who knows what I would’ve done? I probably wouldn’t have made it through 2019, 2020, and 2021 — three consecutive brutally hard years for me for obvious and personal reasons. Now, it’s 2026, and I most certainly can see social media evolving more and more as time goes on.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
